Steal a Superpower Abilities Guide: Card Moves and Unlocking a Card's Most Powerful Ability

Last updated:

Every Steal a Superpower card comes with its own moves. See the power types cards carry and how leveling up unlocks a card's most powerful ability.

Quick answer

Every power card you collect in Steal a Superpower already comes with its own set of moves — getting the card is what gives you its moves. The only thing that starts locked is the card's most powerful ability, and leveling that card up is what unlocks it.

  • Cards are collected from ability packs and grant powers such as lightning, fire, frost, gravity, time, shadow, and gold — the official list ends with 'and more', so those seven are examples, not the full roster.
  • Each power type has its own moveset, so what a card does in a fight depends on the power it carries.
  • Leveling a card up unlocks its most powerful ability, and that unlock applies per card.

Steal a Superpower builds its combat around collectible power cards, which makes your collection your arsenal: the moves available in a fight are the ones carried by the cards you have collected. The rest of this guide takes the two halves of that system in turn — first, what moves a collected card has; then, how a card unlocks its most powerful ability.

What moves a collected card has

The game's official description names the powers you collect from ability packs: lightning, fire, frost, gravity, time, shadow, and gold — and then closes the list with "and more," so read those seven as examples of the roster rather than a complete count of every power in the game.

Whatever the power, the rule behind this question stays the same: moves are attached to the card itself. Every card you collect comes with its own set of moves, so collecting the card is the whole acquisition step for its moves. When the descriptions spell out where one moveset differs from another, they do it by power type — each power type on the list comes with its own moveset. The power a card grants is what determines the style of moves you use with it in a fight.

How a card unlocks its most powerful ability

A card's most powerful ability is locked from the moment you collect it, and one action unlocks it: leveling the card up. Raising a card's level turns its strongest ability from locked to available on that card.

The unlock applies per card. Leveling up one card does not unlock anything for the rest of your collection — every other card keeps its own most powerful ability locked until it is leveled up in turn. That makes leveling the repeating step of the whole card system:

From pack to full power

  1. 1

Pull a card from an ability pack

Ability packs are where collected cards come from.

  2. 2

Take its moves into the zones

The card arrives with its own set of moves, ready to use against enemies as you fight through the zones.

  3. 3

    Level the card up

Leveling up is the action that unlocks the card's most powerful ability.

  4. 4

    Strongest ability available

With the card leveled up, its most powerful ability is unlocked on that card.

For the details of leveling itself, see how to level up cards; for where cards come from in the first place, see the packs guide.

Where those moves get used: the zones

The zones are where a card's moves stop being collection details and become your attacks: you fight through the zones and use your cards' powers against enemies. Because each power type carries its own moveset, the powers you have collected decide what your offense actually looks like in a zone. The zones guide and the combat guide cover that side of the game in more depth.

Exclusive cards follow the same rule

Alongside the standard pack powers, the game's collection includes exclusive cards, and two of them are described directly in the catalog: Valkyrie, an exclusive card that calls down a storm of golden spears, and Galaxy Lord, an exclusive card that is unlocked permanently. They show the same principle at its most distinctive — what a card does is defined by the card itself. The exclusive cards page collects the full set, with dedicated pages for the Valkyrie card and the Galaxy Lord card.

More cards, more moves

Since moves come with cards, the direct way to add powers and their movesets is to collect more cards — and cards come from ability packs. Cash and packs keep that loop moving, so it is worth a quick look at the Steal a Superpower codes page for current offers before a grinding session. If you are starting from scratch, the beginner guide lines up the first steps in order.
